Kerrie Roberts possesses the sort of bravura voice that demands attention from the very first listen, but on her self-titled debut, Roberts makes the God-centered messages of the lyrics shine through by refraining from histrionic displays or melismatic excesses. Her sincerity as well as her vocal power brings out the emotional impact (as well as the spiritual import) of songs like “No Matter What,” “Unstoppable” and “Beautiful to Me.” Especially impressive is “This Love Doesn’t Run,” a majestic declaration of faith that wraps Roberts in an orchestral backdrop without obscuring her commanding vocal presence. Tracks like the compassionate “Keep Breathing” allow Kerrie to interpret a heartfelt lyric on a more intimate scale. While big melodic ballads predominate, the slinky, defiant “Outcast” and the almost industrial-sounding “Unstoppable” add a needed groove quotient to the album. Robert’s sense of personal authenticity makes confessions of weakness like “Maybe I’m Afraid” sound utterly natural. This is an outstanding first effort.

Blown away, and lifted up.

What an amazing debut album. Kerrie could easily be compared to Leona Lewis...she's every bit as talented and very soulful. I've been battling severe depression since Janauary. I lost my job a year ago, and in February my best friend Aaron became terminally ill and died of brain complications. Aaron's family is very poor and they lived 3 hours away, so I was there for him 24/7 and it broke my heart to watch him lose his abilities to speak, stand, walk, use his arms and legs, and swallow. Aaron was one of those people that God placed in my life to love "no matter what" about 5 years ago. He was hard to get to know, and he had "hurt" written all over his face. I have never known anyone who lived a life filled with more despair and pain than him. It took a long time to break through all the many layers he had built to protect himself. As his health began to deteriorate in January of 2010, just one day before he lost his ability to speak, God allowed me the blessing of leading Aaron to Christ--A holy moment that guarantees I will see my best friend again, and spend eternity with him. When Aaron died, a piece of me died with him. I never thought that his death would still bring me to tears seven months later, but it does. I miss him in more ways than I could ever express and some days I ask God why He called Aaron home, and not me instead. "No Matter What" has been a stake in the ground, almost a declaration or sorts that I can trust in God's plan, and know that my love for Him is not dependant on what I see, or what he blesses me with. There are many things in life on this side of eternity that I'll never understand. Kerrie's music has helped remind me that a strong, mature faith does not demand and explanation from the Lord, instead it is defined by an unshakable committment to believe and trust NO MATTER WHAT.
