Definitely a knockout

I do a weekly independent radio show and podcast (The Great American Music Hour, available on iTunes) and have played tracks from this album numerous times. My personal favorites are "Rage Like The Sun" and "Head Full O'Worry," but they're all good. If you like great pop rock with smart songwriting and tight instrumentation, check out the Knockout Drops; you won't be disappointed.

A Knockout Debut

There is a fun-loving loon poking his way through the otherwise honest and earnest voice of the Knockout Drops' Chris Champion. The release of each breath promises either a whisper of enlightened wisdom or a deep chuckle, and though this particular album has more of the former, see them live and you'll be treated to plenty of the later. While the production has the charm of good friends playing their favorite tunes in a pleasantly furnished studio, it does not do justice to the kind of energy they channel when given a crowd to work with, (Campion could be a professional comedian/storyteller if he set his mind to it...) As for the tracks, Wrong Side of Love possesses the most immediate charm. A blend of wilting guitars and softly energetic, "things are tough, but it'll be ok", vocals, Campion struggles with the kind love that happens while you're waiting for something else to come along. "You were heaven sent, I guess God got his timing wrong." Hellride is a more upbeat lesson in not looking back, while Caught in the Headlights is an ode to being taken aback by something wonderful and frightening.

YAYYYY!

These are my uncles!! GO UNCLE PHIL!!!!!!!!

Moving their base of operations to New York City, the trio acquired drummer Vinny Cimino and began playing out at area clubs, building a following with their off-kilter stage act. A self-released effort entitled The Burning Bush Chronicles impressed producer Joe Blaney, who'd worked in the...
