Pop provocateur Terry Lynn hails from Waterhouse, the same troubled Kingston neighborhood where King Tubby almost single-handedly refashioned the role of the producer in popular music with his groundbreaking productions. Though Lynn’s bracing new EP Kingstonlogic draws inspiration from a myriad of sources including the dancing-as-politics revolutionary rabble-rousing of M.I.A. and the minimalist electro-pop of Daft-Punk, her real antecedents are the Jamaican DJs and producers of the mid ‘80s who brought Reggae into the digital era with their innovative keyboard-based beats and frenetic drum programming. The hard driving “Kingstonlogic” fuses an imported electro pulse to homegrown dancehall rhythms and a string of chanted catch phrases to make for a stirring glimpse of the contemporary Kingston underground.
