Album Review

Idol and bassist Tony James rehearse for their post-Gen X careers, respectively as a solo artist and as the leader of Sigue Sigue Sputnik. This album contains the dance hit "Dancing With Myself."

Customer Reviews

top-notch

This is one of my favorite albums... a different vibe from Billy Idol's solo work. Ah, to be a teenager again. Warm summer, few responsibilities, first girlfriend, bright unknown future -- the whole bit.

However. the naming of some of the tracks is mixed up here. Playing through the samples, track 14 is the live version of "From the Heart," and track 15 is a live cover of David Bowie's "Andy Warhol." Track 11 seems to be some sort of remix of "Happy People," which may in fact be titled "Hubble, Bubble, Toil and Dubble." Tracks 12 and 13 seem to be different dub remixes of a song in the same vein that "Wild Dub" was a remix of "Wild Youth" on Generation X's self-titled album, so they're probably "Loopy Dub" and "Ugly Dub."

The rest of the track samples are named correctly.

Great Songs

You can sort of tell with things like the pointless "Hubble & Bubble" track what the state of GenX was when this was released. That said, there's great material here.

"Untouchables" is insanely catchy and wonderful, it's one of the band's best songs (check out Billy Idol's solo version on the "Don't Stop" EP too. It's more '80s).

The other highlight is "Andy Warhol." Generation X (The Clash, too) is different from their punk brethren in that they decided they could like other people's music, and this rockin' live version of David Bowie's song is even better than the original.

Damn ThIS AALBUM IS DOPE!

This is a really fun euro secret gem, I say that cause all the songs are great if you match it to the era it came from and considering no one even commented about it side me

Although not as well as known as some of their peers (the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Damned, etc.), first wave U.K. punk rockers Generation X burst onto the scene at the same time as the others. And while they enjoyed some moderate success in their homeland, Generation X would become better-known as the launching pad for their singer, Billy Idol, who would go on to achieve great commercial success come the '80s. Originally formed in 1976, Generation X (which was named after a book that focused on...
