Finally!

Finally, L'Arc~en~Ciel is available via iTunes in the US! If you are not already familiar with one of the most successful bands in history, you are in for a treat. (And if you *are* familiar, you don't need me to tell you.) How does one describe L'Arc~en~Ciel to the western world? Imagine the impact that the Beatles would have continued to have if they had not split up, but instead occasionally took a break from their group to pursue/try new styles? And then... to come back and infuse what they've learned into the band. That is part of what L'Arc is, keeping them fresh, exciting, and a dominant force in the Asian music industry since 1992. One of the neat things about L'Arc~en~Ciel is their willingness to experiment and stretch themselves, which has resulted in an amazing discography of close to (if not over) 200 songs. Each individual is considered among the very best at what they do and together--whether it's rock, pop or any other genre--the result is both amazing and distinctively L'Arc~en~Ciel. Their songs tend to be mostly in Japanese, with some English, making them an ideal band to choose as your introduction into the J-Rock/JPop (Japanese Rock/Pop) arena. The following tracks from this CD were all top-selling singles: Seventh Heaven - Written by hyde, it was inspired in part by "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore and by a night in a disco-- and odd combination that works. Meant to be a song that others can sing along to, it's got a disco feel. My Heart Draws A Dream - (music by ken, lyrics by hyde) The message in this beautiful ballad is that everyone has a dream in their heart waiting to be fulfilled. DAYBREAK'S BELL - this became one of the theme songs to the Japanese anime GUNDAM. Link - this was the outro theme to a recent Full Metal Alchemist movie and has a summery, fun theme. Hurry Xmas - This is the most jazz-like song attempted by L'Arc. Written by hyde, it has a retro swing-era feel to it. L'Arc~en~Ciel is made up of tetsu (bass), hyde (vocals), ken (guitar) and yukihiro (drums).

FINALLY!!

Finally, L'Arc~en~Ciel is available on iTunes!! Ok, with that said, this album is absolutely amazing. Every single track on this album is amazing. "Sunadokei" is such a beautiful song and Hyde, despite being 39 years old, having braces, and being a smoker, can still hit those high notes. This album is a great buy, for both new and old L'Arc~en~Ciel. I must say, though, when I first heard the album it kind of reminded me of their first album, 'Dune." In some weird way it echoes "Dune," yet it is completely different at the same time. I highly reccommend that you purchase this album. Besides, at $9.99, how could you beat that?

Brilliant

Ohoho, what is this, J-pop on iTunes? Thank you Apple, you've just added an AMAZING band. I first found these guys by Full Metal Alchemist and Ready Steady Go. Don't get me wrong, it was a good song, but I hardly believe that it is their best. Interestingly enough, I wasn't a fan after Ready Steady Go. After recently watching the Full Metal Alchemist movie in its English release, I became addicted to both the intro and extro music. The intro music is Link and the extro music is Lost Heaven. And with those two pieces, I became a true fan. My favorite L'Arc-en-Ciel song is Daybreak's Bell. I'm a pianist, and I find the piano light and soothing in Daybreak's Bell. iTunes's :30 second preview does not do this song justice, which leads me to believe the same is true for the rest of the songs as well. I highly suggest the purchace of this entire CD, without a moment of hesitation.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

A French-named yet Japanese rock act, L'Arc-en-Ciel came together in 1991, formed by bassist Tetsuya Ogawa. The original lineup went astray with two members departing in 1992, but Ogawa (aka Tetsu) was able to rope in new members and continue the band. The band released their full-length debut in April 1993. Entitled Dune, the album reached number one on the independent charts and helped get them a major-label deal with Sony in 1994. In addition to stepping up to the majors, 1994 also saw the band...
