iTunes Review
The title track twists Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” into a manic juke-joint knife-fight as it slips into the mind of a young soldier working his way through the difficulties of Afghanistan (the acronym stands for “Kiss My Ass Guys, You’re On Your Own”). Elsewhere, this thirty-something Texan sounds wiser and more experienced than his years. “The Letter” is spare, a country-blues sent from jail. “Bottle In My Hand” throws Todd Snider and Corb Lund into the deep country terrain where banjos, mandolins and guitars do the dirty work. “Grateful For Christmas” makes a strong argument for Carll as a stand-up comedian. “Another Like You,” a duet with Cary Ann Hearst, is a humorous take on a mismatched one-night stand. The country slide of “Grand Parade” bolsters Carll’s honky-tonk delivery. Carll has a voice so perfect for country music that he sounds like he grew up in the mid-20th Century and was now unearthed. The sweet gospel finality of “Hide Me” elegantly caps this exquisite album.

Do Not Walk, But Run To The Click Button
Hayes has done it again, except this time the entire album is chock full of the finely crafty, poignant and poetic, but oh-so-funny songs we have all come to love. Buy it now. You can thank me later.
Beans and Biscuits In My Cupboard. . .
. . . He's the son of Ray Wylie Hubbard! Ok, not really but Mr. Carll sounds like it, give or take a dash of Billy Joe Shaver. If you didn't know any better, I wouldn't call you a fool if you thought so. I'm only three songs in and it's been love at first sound. Yes, it really does exist. This is what Country radio should sound like in modern times. Carll further reinforces my belief in him as a progressing writer, never satisfied with achieving the song he wrote yesterday. That's what it's all about nowdays. Some suit behind a desk in his office on the 99th floor of some label's "HQ", and demand of those under him to, "make" another Hayes Carll-type artist to sell some records and make him some fast money. That suit will end up sorely disappointed and in the hole. Unique ain't something you can buy. This album, and Carll's music in general, gives the listener an explanation when he/she asks, "What the hell is wrong with Country radio these days?". I'm afraid Nashville is regressing back to the Country Music business strategies of the time before "Outlaw Country" was commonplace in the industry. And it's artists and writers like Carll that are kicking the door in and blazing the overgrown paths to complete artistic freedom and individualism. Thanks Hayes!!
Hayes is good
Another excellent album from one of the best country singer-songwriters of the era. Literate, witty, catchy and memorable, KMAG YOYO will surely end the year in my top 5 albums. Some mainstream artist will probably take one of these songs to the top of the charts, but Hayes' versions will resonate longer. Great collection.
