iTunes Review

L.A. Woman was Jim Morrison's sixth and final studio album with The Doors. It's an inspired set of blues-based material that transcends the genre with Morrison's otherworldly intensity. His psychedelic influences are still at work on the tribal "The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)" and in the wonderfully bizarre "Hyacinth House," where he proclaims, "I see the bathroom is clear." This 40th-anniversary edition features alternate takes of seven album cuts, including two extra rehearsal takes of "L.A. Woman" and John Lee Hooker's "Crawling King Snake," plus two additional blues jams: "She Smells So Nice" and "Rock Me." The alternate takes offer a looser Morrison still figuring out how to approach songs that have since become FM radio classics. The title track, "Love Her Madly," and "Riders on the Storm" are permanent fixtures in the classic-rock canon, while "The Changeling" may be the group's most underrated track, spotlighting Ray Manzarek's defining organ work. This is that rare collection where alternate takes should help old fans enjoy a classic album anew.

L.A. Woman...

All I have to say is that it's The Doors. Flawless, Enchanted, and just completely Magical, the best album by the best band. Ladies and gentlemen……..The Doors!

Hyacinth House

This is a landmark beauty. L.A. Woman is one of my favorite Doors albums. The music and sound is refreshing. The modern technology altered the electric sound eliciting from L.A. Woman. The bonus tracks are amazing. It captures the making of L.A. Woman. It seems that the entire album revolved over a jam session. In which, it is ecstatic. I love the Alternate track for the Changeling. It is over powering. I would have loved to hear other alternate songs, such as: L'America, Hyacinth House, Been Down So Long, Crawling King Snake, and the Wasp. Overall, this a blossoming beauty. It is worth the listening for new and old fans. This is a beauty.

L.A. Woman: Reevaluated

The pivotal album released in 1971 shines with a new glimmer. The new tracks really put this album into perspective. Hearing Jim suggest the infamous thunder intro to Riders is just riveting! I would scoop this up, but if your a fan of actual CDs like me, I would just buy the CD set and pick up the spare tracks on iTunes. Hopefully the 3 CD set of just outtakes and studio chatter will come out later this year and a box to house both CD sets will be released!

The Doors, one of the most influential and controversial rock bands of the 1960s, were formed in Los Angeles in 1965 by UCLA film students Ray Manzarek, keyboards, and Jim Morrison, vocals; with drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger.
