iTunes Review
Back in the mid-'00s, Lupe Fiasco struck a nerve with his fashion-forward style, matched with cheeky verses and ear-tickling, loop-driven productions, which endeared him to fans and critics alike. Lasers (an acronym for Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile) marks his 2011 return. Straight off the bat, it's clear that Lupe has no intentions keeping his original, underground-centric fan base, as he employs a lot more singing, radio-ready choruses, and a heavy, electro-pop influence on his tracks. The best joints here are the string-laced, Afro-centric anthem "All Black Everything," ridiculously catchy "Coming Up" featuring MDMA, and "Words I Never Said" with Skylar Grey. Other guests include John Legend, Trey Songz, and Matt Mahaffey.

Lupe Fiasco - Lasers
After 3 years of delay it's finally here...LASERS! For those complaining about Lupe going commerical...its not his fault. Blame Atlantic Records for the constant delays and forcing Lupe to change his sound for a more radi-friendly album. But just because some songs are commercial, this album still has its gems and overall is a great album. Here is a track-by-track review.
Letting Go (feat. Sarah Green) – 9/10 I’m not going to lie, when I first heard the opening for the album, I almost teared up. This is a very solid opener for the album. The beat is very catchy and the lyrics are uplifting and thought-provoking. But my only flaw with the song is the overuse of auto-tune, it kind of sounds like a 808s & Heartbreak rap. Still, a great opener.
Words I Never Said (feat. Skylar Grey) – 10/10 This is one of the albums high points. The beat is spectacular, the chorus is beautiful, but none of that compares to Lupe’s amazing lyrics. This single is stirring up quite a bit of controversy. A song about politics such as corrupt government, racism in the media, and 9/11, not everyone is going to love this song, but at least respect the artist for asking questions.
Till I Get There – 9/10 Some people will hate on this track, but personally I love it. With a piano led beat, this is a very simple yet though-provoking track with a very catchy hook. I predict it to be the most under-rated song or the most over-rated.
I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now (feat. MDMA) – 7/10 This is one of the tracks with the Atlantic shadow over it. I don’t mind the track and I’m sure it will be a club hit, but it’s just not a Lupe song, and the beat is the most annoying.
Out Of My Head (feat. Trey Songz) – 6.5/10 My least favorite song on the album. This is where you can tell Lupe’s label screwed him over. Annoying hook and beat, there is nothing that is for Lupe on this track.
The Show Goes On – 10/10 Hopefully we all know this. The albums first single, I love this song. Sampling Float On by Modest Mouse, it is the most inspiring song on the album, with great, uplifting lyrics and spectacular chorus. Classic Lupe.
Beautiful Lasers (feat. MDMA) – 10/10 I cried when I heard this song. Such a great message and emotion on this track. The chorus is beautiful even with auto-tune and Lupe’s lyrics of suicide really touched me. Some of the albums best.
Coming Up (feat. MDMA) – 7/10 Nothing really notable of this track. Another very annoying song for me.
State Run Radio (feat. sELF) – 8.5/10 Very political lyrics and rock based beat, this song has a great message about the lack of quality in today’s popular media and how true art isn’t appreciated, but the hook is kind of annoying.
Break the Chain (feat. Eric Turner & Sway) – 7.5/10 I have no doubt this will do well commercially, but this track again just isn’t Lupe. The hook is decent but I hate the verse from Sway. Ok track.
All Black Everything – 10/10 Amazing lyrics and one of Lupe’s most well-constructed and thought-out tracks. One of the albums best.
Never Forget You (feat. John Legend) – 9.5/10 Beautiful hook from John Legend but even better rap from Lupe. Very personally lyrics about his father and I beautiful way to end the album!
