Album Review

The Last Tour on Earth, the live souvenir from the ill-fated Mechanical Animals tour, is an aural document of a primarily visual experience. Marilyn Manson's records are extremely well crafted, filled with revealing sonic details, but in concert he concentrates on spectacle, preferring dazzling visuals to new arrangements. That's not a bad thing — Manson is an agent provocateur and his shows should be an overwhelming visual experience. There's no need for reinvented versions of "The Beautiful People" or "Irresponsible Hate Anthem," since they serve as the soundtrack for the sights. It's a good selection of Manson favorites performed by a tight band, although apart from rougher vocals and slightly more immediate sound, there are no true differences between the stage and studio versions of these songs. Based on the music, it's hard to tell that this is a live album, except for stray crowd noises and Manson's on-stage ramblings. It's fascinating to hear him act like a sober Jim Morrison, trying to get his audience to yell "motherf*cker" and winding up with an incoherent "maoohahfuer," or relating his spellbinding vision of a dreamworld, where the land is made of drugs, cops give Manson head, and God is spelled "D-R-U-G-S," especially since these rants are delivered, by name, to the Midwestern off-markets of Grand Rapids, MI, and Cedar Rapids, IA.

Manson Live.

First off, Imawinner, it is incredibly ignorant and in bad taste to think you were the only person who requested The Last Tour on Earth (Live). itunes listens to the majority not the minority. Anyway, this is a "collection" of Manson's live songs during his Rock is Dead Tours. They are all amazing songs, and I would reccomend this to any and all Manson fans. This includes the single Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes which is pure hardcore mosh-pit-headbanging song.

Intense, jarring, breathtaking

to the user "...": I own the original jewel copy disc, and there was no Coma White on it. It had this exact track list. I'm reviewing the original jewel disc with the assumption that they're equal, so I'll say that this is a requisite Manson fan's album. The energy here could be disorienting, from the classic The Reflecting God to the crowd involvement and the extended break in the song in the middle of Lunchbox to the imo-better-than-the-original and consciousness-taking version of The Beautiful People, which sounds ten times harder than the original album version. It's all produced perfectly, with no hiccups. One thing that bothered me was the end of Great Big White World: there is no extra guitar playing in the final verse like there is in the original, which was the best part of the song for me. Also, like I'm sure many others feel, some other favorites are missing. I can understand not having Mechanical Animals (as much as I love the song), but referring back to the start of the review I wish Coma White was on there. Overall though, the track selection is first-rate with no serious wastes of space. Excellent.

Undeniably Brilliant

This is an amazing album. Even without the astonishing stage theatrics that Manson is reknownd for, this is an excellent live album. Some songs, such as Rock is Dead, just were not meant to be preformed live, in my opinon, and as a result, the preformance is lacking. I Don't like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me) is another example. However, ALL of the other songs are preformed very well (In my opinion, the versions of the Dope Show and The Last Day on Earth are better than the studio version). This album also includes an additional studio song, Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes (which is good). If you are a true Manson fan, this album cannot be missed.

Love him or hate him, the self-proclaimed "Antichrist Superstar" — Marilyn Manson — was indisputably among the most notorious and controversial entertainers of the 1990s. Celebrated by supporters as a crusader for free speech and denounced by detractors as little more than a poor man's Alice Cooper, Manson was the latest in a long line of shock rockers, rising to the top of the charts on a platform of sex, drugs, and Satanism. Though widely dismissed by critics, his brand of metal nevertheless...
