iTunes Review
Kanye West could easily coast after the near-universal acclaim he received for 2004’s The College Dropout. Instead, he challenges himself and raises his game by arguing with himself and hiring soundtrack maestro and one-time Fiona Apple producer Jon Brion as a co-producer for Late Registration, an album good enough to trash any talk of a “sophomore slump.” More engaged with music and the world than ever, West here makes the kind of multilayered sound that few hip-hoppers – or pop musicians, period – have achieved in a while. It’s a set undeniable enough that even his detractors will have a hard time poking many holes in it.
Customer Reviews
Wow
Even though this album is quite different from his first album, it is awesome. His first album, "College Dropout", which was also tight, was more of a hip hop album, even though it had plenty of rap. This one is more of a rap album, even though it has a lotta hip hop. If you like rap even a little bit, this is DEFANTLEY the album to buy. Kanye's spit is like magic. Here's a review on each song: Wake Up Mr. West- (***based on intros) This intro is actually really catchy. Especially the way it flows into Geard 'Em Say. Heard 'Em Say- (*****) One of the best songs on the album. Shows Kanye's (new) maturity. Touch The Sky- (*****) My favorite song on the album. Has a catchy orcestra and an awesome chorus. Gold Digger- (*****) One of his MAJOR rap song on this album with a catchy chorus. Skit #1-(*) MUCH better than his first skit on College dropout, especially w the gas joke as it flows into "Drive Slow", but its still a song you would skip as u listen to the CD Drive Slow- (***) He definately raps the most in this song, and it has a nice head bobbin chorus, but it kinda gets annoying. My Way Home-(***) I'm glad he made this song only 1:45, cause if he made it any longer, it would've gotten boring. Crack Music-(****) Catchy song, especially with the la la la's mixed with the chorus. Roses-(*****) A deep song that Kanye sings/raps (at the same time) that has a gospel type of chorus you'll like even if you don't like gospel. Bring Me Down- (*) Worst song on the album mostly cause of Brandy repeating They try to Bring Me Down over and over again Addiction-(*****) Another favorite song with a really catchy chorus and a lot of Kanye just bein himself. Skit #2-(*1/2) Better than the first skit on this album and any skit on College Dropout, but still boring and pointless. Diamonds from Sierra Leone- (****) This one's actually better than the other version and is the Remix to the original version. Best part is when Jay Z does his thing and Kanye yells "throw ya diamonds in the sky if ya feel the vive". We Major-(***1/2) Would've been 4-5 stars if it was shorter. After 7 1/2 minutes ya don't wanna listen to it again. If ya just switch the song after the first 4 min, you'll like it. Skit #3-(1/2) Stupid skit. Hey Mama-(*****) Proves that Kanye can rap about anything, even his mom. This is a sweet song to his mom that anyone would like. Celebration-(****) Catchy song. I like how they only made it a few minutes. The chorus would've gotten stupid and annoying if they made it any longer. Skit #4-(1/2) At least its short? Gone(****) Catchy and FUn chorus. Cam'ron does his thing well. Diamonds from Sierra Leone(***1/2) Half as good as the remix Late(***) Kinda weird and annoying. Especially the teddy bear or whatever the whinning thing is. Overall this is THE album to buy. If ya don't want it enough to buy the album, buy these songs: 1. Gold Digger 2. Heard Em Say 3. Touch the Sky 4. Roses 5. Addiction 6. Hey Mama 7. Diamonds from Sierra Leone (remix) or Gone If ya did thanks for reading the review.
it's the broke broke anthem
i have to admit, @ 1st i thought kanye had lost his touch. no hyped songs like on college dropout. and the 1st single, diamonds from sierra leone wasn't my favorite. but eventually, the cd started to grow on me. the hot joint right now golddigger is gr8. i certainly am lovin it. then as i was previewin it an there are some hot songs like gone, hey mama, touch the sky, and heard 'em say. The cd's better than i thought.
Amazing
This album is amazing, a top 5 rap album of all time. There is not much difference between the clean and explicit lyrics, because Kanye West doesnt curse a lot. The skits are very good, and everyone will love Touch The Sky and Gold Digger. A great steal.
