iTunes Review

With all the stories of waste, wreckage, and regret that surround Layla, it might as well be Exile on Main Street - if not The Velvet Underground and Nico. The jam-session ethos of Eric Clapton's Florida getaway quickly gave way to a series of full-on screams of pain, and not just the vocal kind, either. Take away the monumental title track, and this still swaggers, roars, and yelps as only a band in the throes of heartache and substance abuse can. Put the title track back in, and you've got the soundtrack to an epic love story, perhaps the one Hunter Thompson never wrote. Falling in love with your best friend's wife has been known to do that, but rarely with such glorious results as the Dominos got here.

this album brings out the best in clapton because of the company (and drugs) he's keeping.

duane allman smokes him with his dog whistle frets in key to the highway, an impromptu jam session luckily caught on tape.

too bad you can't read the liner notes with itunes...

A masterpiece from Eric Clapton
