Good Direction for the Dynamic Duo
There are a lot of complaints out there about the fact that this album strays away from Infected's previous trance style. I agree that their heavy incorporation of rock elements as compared to previous albums is disorienting, but their style is still there. That's the best thing about Infected -- always changing, yet always familiar.
Poquito Mas: I like this song mostly for the vocals. Other than that, it's an okay track. Very unusual, but still very much Infected sounding.
Saeed: A song for the ages. I don't think I can really describe it...just...go listen to it. Has rock elements, but is more heavily influenced by trance than any of the other songs with rock sounds on the album. My personal favorite.
End of the Road: Interesting minimal-style track. I really like its simplicity, though it won't appeal to many because of its minimalistic nature. Definitely groovy; listen through to the end, and I think you may be pleasantly satisfied.
Smashing the Opponent: First song on the album I heard. Heavily rock-influenced track, with heavy yet bouncy synths wrapping around the beat. Solid track; highly recommend it for rock lovers who are first time listeners of Infected.
Can't Stop: I personally kind of dislike this track. The guitar riffs are cool, but they get kind of old, and the vocoded/processed singing -- while kinda cool -- is a tad painful to listen to. Just my opinion.
Herbert the Pervert: Heaviest rock influence in the album. Basically a smorgasbord of epic guitar riffs, with some trance elements mixed in the background. Overall a good, balanced track.
Killing Time: Grungy, more melancholy track. Reminiscent of Infected's track In Front of Me from Vicious Delicious. Might take a couple listens for it to catch you, but definitely a keeper.
Project 100: What can you even say about this track? An experimental epic, going with Infected's tradition of having a crazy experimental track on each album (Heavyweight, Dancing With Kadafi, The Missed Symphony, etc). Very well done for the variety of sounds and time signatures riddling it; with sounds ranging from grinding guitar riffs to bubbling synths; epic choirs to non-lyrical weird-as-heck vocals. IM have definitely outdone themselves with this one. Not a track for the casual listener.
Franks: Fans of pure trance/electronic music will love this track. Wacky stinging and grinding synths all over the place, leading up to an insane guitar/synth ridden climax that will leave you sticky in the ears.
Slowly: Fans of Infected's earlier tracks will like this the most. It shows an audible progression in their trance style, with their weirdo synths and processed voices being used as instruments. Not for everybody, but definitely a good track.
Legend of the Black Shawarma: Trance-rock track that will rip through your brain. Not quite as good as Saeed, but definitely still top notch. The long, somewhat uninteresting beeping intro leaves something to be desired, but it's more than made up for when the guitars and vocals come in, making for an excellent blend of trance and rock.
Riders on the Storm: Not a huge fan. I like the feeling of it, and their careful use of synths to go along with the singer's voice. I could do without the weird voice distortions throughout, but overall a fairly good track.
Bust a Move: Classic remix of a classic song. Go listen to the original first for the full effect.
Prescription - mass quantities of mushrooms
Amazing. I might say I like this stuff better than prior IM because of the heavy guitar in some tracks. IM is naturally delicious for your psycho-senses.
