A young emcee out of Flatbush, Brooklyn, Marc Billz has bubbled up over the last few years, doing his thing on the mixtape/YouTube circuit and seeking a foothold in the crowded scene of East Coast up-and-comers. On Less Is More!, he breaks us off with seven tracks of distinctly New York hip-hop, flaunting a smooth, street-savvy flow that brings to mind both Jay-Z and 50 Cent. Things start on a high note with "So Different" (featuring J Stylz), a romance rap that revisits fellow Bucktown artist Black Moon's classic "Buck Em Down" beat. "Up Next" relays tales of moving work on the corner, while "By Any Means" talks of a lifetime of struggling and hustling. "Your Girl (My Backseat)" is the requisite radio joint, with minimalist drums and R&B crooning as Billz compares himself to both Superman and Rocky Balboa. He brings a believable swagger to the table. The production is familiar without being redundant, keeping the sound Gotham-centric and avoiding walls of synths and staccato 808 snares.
