Album Review
The big lead single from Lloyd's third album, "Girls All Around the World," has a couple connections with "You," the number one R&B single from 2007's Street Love. Lil Wayne's guest roles are the most obvious similarity between the two, while "Girls All Around the World" is built around the same drum break — the one from Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers' "Ashley's Roachclip," a source for the likes of Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid in Full" and Milli Vanilli's "Girl You Know It's True," to name two of the almost countless — used on P.M. Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss," a song that, like "You," quoted Spandau Ballet's "True." "Girls easily qualifies as this album's most major drawing point, fit for summer with that familiar bounding beat and breezy synth-string accents, not to mention Wayne, who can't help but humorously reference "Paid in Full." And, of course, there is Lloyd, the should-be honorary DeBarge, with his loveable wannabe-thug falsetto. Incorporating some more club-oriented material wouldn't have hurt the album, given how safe it tends to play it, filled out with gentle midtempo cuts and slow jams, much of which comes across as Street Love reheated. That becomes increasingly obvious as the tracks roll on, especially during the latter half, where two of the album's more ridiculous tracks, "Party All Over Your Body" and "Touched by an Angel," are paired together, their disparate titles and sonics belying thematic sameness (or mindlessness). And the heartfelt sentiment within the Outfield-referencing "Lose Your Love," earlier in the set, seems more of a put-on than any of Lloyd's tough-guy photo poses. "I'm Wit It," a low-slung but urgent post-Neptunes strutter, is where Lloyd really excels, flashing some vocal gymnastics, swimming and diving through the beat while balancing desperation with swagger. Between that, "Girls," and a couple other standouts, Lessons in Love cannot be dismissed, but Lloyd will have to really change it up with his fourth album to evade a real holding pattern.

He released this album too soon. He could release it next year. I think he was rushing this album out. The songs are common in R&B mainstream. There are only a few tracks I like in this album. RECOMMENDED SONGS: 1. Girls Around the World 2. Year of the Lover 3. I Can Change Your Life

07's Street Love proved that Lloyd had found his sound. Now he's ready to deliver some Lessons In Love, is the third time the charm? Sex Education: Big Reese & Jasper provide a solid start as heavy drums, bass and synthy background, allow Lloyd to bring you into his class of love. 3.5/5 Girls Around The World: The lead single of the album, it is in very much similar to his previous hit, "You". Wayne is back with a decent verse, the song heavily samples a famous tune and its upbeat. What really makes this track is the "Paid In Full" production with lush strings that leaves the perfect platform for a chilled dance cut. Lloyd glides smoothly over the production with his light falsetto. 4/5 Treat U Good: Just a decent track here, as Eric Hudson's grooving bassline and sweet breakdown towards the end make the track work. While the change in tempos is cool, the hook gets a little repetitive. 3/5 Year Of The Lover: As Lloyd approprietly says "this one for the radio-oh-oh", it has a radio sound. A slow rolling love jam that has Lloyd smoothly seducing his woman and singing a beautiful melody. Its a solid track but a little generic. 4/5 I Can Change Your Life: Oak's strings start things off, as bumping bass thumps throughout, with piano trickling. A little too much drums and bass however, dilute the effect of the sincere hook of Lloyd. Intended to be a genuine and charming track, it ends up being a little sappy and overdone. Decent. 3/5 Lose Your Love: Decent midtempo that bumps, as Lloyd sings about not wanting to lose his girl's love. Lyrically it isn't anything we haven't heard before and the track ends up being forgettable. 2.5/5 Have My Baby: Heavy drums and another midtempo, Lloyd wants his lady to have his baby. The topic is a little corny and lyrically its pretty cliche, but some parts of this track make it worth listening to. While the topic isn't the best, the track is a nice listen. 3/5 Love Making 101: Production has a possible crossover feel to it, as Lloyd delivers another bedroom number. Its a decent track with fitting production, but it sounds similar to previous tracks. 3/5 Party All Over Your Body: Hot producer Polow Da Don delivers mediocre production, while Lloyd uses a little auto tuner, while singing about the typical, "take ya out to dinner, feelin on you" therefore leading to the exciting climax of "partying all over ya body". Its a little too cliche for me. 2.5/5 Touched By An Angel: Decent production as the bass continues to bounce, but Lloyd sounds better here. While the title is a little cliche, lyrically and the way he sings gives off a sincere and sweet personality. 3.5/5 I'm Wit It: Usher's brother, J Lack delivers an interesting production here, as he collaborates with Lloyd once again. Lloyd blending between the beat, diving in and out works extremely well and the change in flow is appealing. It works well with J Lack's unique production and the track ends up being a more entertaining, better track. 4/5 Heart Attack: A fitting ender about losing a girl who is gonna give him a heart attack. The production is a nice ender and the "ohohohooohoh" is nice in the hook. Solid ender. 3.5/5 Love Spaceship: Very different from the album, an upbeat disco like dance track that is just decent. 3/5 While Lloyd's third album is enjoyable, it overall lacks in the creativity department. The vocals aren't bad, what you'd expect from Lloyd, but one might wish that he'd switch it up and come with something a little better. Nonetheless for fans and listeners it is decent album, it just doesn't top his previous release Street Love. In fact its pretty similar to Street Love, just with no party cuts, lush midtempos and ballads. The album is a lot more direct to its listeners with heavy bass and drums, as synth, strings and piano are sprinkled throughout. Lyrically its decent but at times pretty cliche. Lead single "Girls Around The World" works off its classic beat, "Year Of The Lover" is a radio ready formula that suffers from being too generic, "I'm Wit It" is a unique production with Lloyd blending in and out with the beat. Some tracks like "Party All Over Your Body", "Lose Your Love" are decent cuts but way too cliche. "I Can Change Your Life" is brought down by the overdramatized drums. A decent release from Lloyd that plays it safe and sticks to sweet love jams and midtempos, but hopefully next time he'll deliver a little more creative release with more uptempo cuts, since the album at times can turn sappy. Rating: 7 out of 10
I''M AN OFFICIAL LOVER NOW...
OH MY... how about Lloyd has SERIOUSLY stepped up his lyrical and musical game by releasing this album!! Not only are the lyrics A LOT more meaningful and sincere, but the beats are amazing!! The songs are great too. My favorite definitely has to be "Year of the Lover" because it's just so inviting, endearing, and although highly sexual, it's all romantic. There were a few other songs that are must listens, too, such as " Love Spaceship," "Have My Baby," *&// "I Can Change Your Life." With these, I'd definitely take a ride in Lloyd's love spaceship!! BUY THIS!
