just smokin
I knew Derek was a well-known LA-based 1st call bass player. I didn't know he was a great songwriter and producer! The groove on this album is just smokin'! ...however, it's not without direction. The Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai influence is unmistakable. Derek's bass playing is super funky and tasteful, but the rest of the players are just smokin' as well...particularly the drumming and horns.

A great album from start to finish - every track is a winner. The originals are fresh and inventive, and the covers, coming from a diverse range of sources, are well-chosen and creative while remaining faithful to the core of the original songs. It's a funkalicious groove buffet....eat up!
Great Album
I love songs 6 & 7 especially, but the whole album is very good. I saw him play bass for Mindi Abair and he is very impressive.
