Album Review

Let the Wind Blow is a pretty standard mid-'80s effort for the all-male vocal quartet the Imperials. The band's lineup was always a rotating door, but in 1985 the group consisted of Armond Morales, Jim Murray, David Will, and Paul Smith. The music is forgettably mild (by now, all but forgotten) gospel-pop written by a hodgepodge of familiar Christian Contempary devotees like Michael W. Smith, Teri DeSario Purse, and Keith Thomas. The arrangements are loaded with the tinny, cheap-sounding keyboards that dominated pop in the '80s, although "Miracles" features an almost — can this word really be applied to the Imperials? — funky bass intro. If you happen to come across a dust-covered copy in your church basement, you might consider throwing this one on.

Typical 80's, but a few favorites too.

I can agree with some of the things said in the editorial review, but not all. I like a few songs on this album and even keep them in my iTunes favorites. The songs Let The Wind Blow and Jericho are both classics for me - having grown up in the 80's - and they are inspirational. Bread of Life is good also. I don't know that I would encourage anyone to spend the $9.90 on the album, but if you like the music of the 80's, try out Let the Wind Blow.

Nostalgic bliss

First of all, this album was released in 1985, not 1987. I used to blast it from the car during after-school soccer practice in '85 and '86, and it's fun to revisit these songs after a 20-year hiatus. They're joyful, God-centered, and fun songs, heavy on the vocals.

Jericho: I've Finally Found It!!

I've been looking and asking people for years about a song I remember with the line "The walls of Jericho came down...God crushed them to the ground...." And today.....on a wild guess I typed in Jericho and found it. Go figure it was by one of my favorite groups growing up. "Jericho" is a great song, as well as "Let The Wind Blow," and "In the Promised Land." Man, I remember these songs being played on the Radio. Those 3 songs are a MUST download. Thank you ITunes for having these available. GOD BLESS!!

The Imperials have been making music since 1964 and have in that time undergone many personnel and stylistic changes before returning to the close harmonies and straight Southern gospel songs that originally made them popular. As of the mid-'90s, Armond Morales is the only charter member of the Imperials; he and Jake Hess founded the quintet. Over the years, 18 different singers have come and gone, including such legends...
