iTunes Review

Anyone who has ever adhered to the Bob Seger credo that “…today’s music ain’t got the same soul” might change their tune after hearing Laura Izibor’s debut. Let The Truth Be Told grooves on bygone tones stewed in the roux of yesteryear’s Motown sound — but the tastefully modern production nurtures an overall relevance that keeps things fresh during those timeless moments. The first cut “Shine” opens with Izibor inflecting soulful harmonies over staccato piano notes before a deeply resonating bass and an up-front dance beat step in, authoritatively reminding us that 21st century soul can confidently strut with one foot in the past (dig that brazen horn section and grinding Hammond organ) and the other in the now of studio innovation. The Nigerian-Irish singer/songwriter took four years getting her first long-player to sound right and it shows, especially with the near perfect “From My Heart To Yours,” a truly fetching hit which has been featured on Grey’s Anatomy and VH1’s Tough Love. The soaring ballad “I Don’t Want You Back” is an instant classic, but it’s “Mmm…” that plays heaviest on the heartstrings.

A Complete Collection of Truly Soulful Music

Laura Izibor is a refreshing new face on the R&B scene. This album is certain the first of many. This particular compilation certainly has the potential of containing several Top 100 hits. You can compare her to several successful female artists in the business today buy her Irish heritage sets her distinctively apart from Keys, Hill, Stone, and others. With the inception of iTune I rarely buy complete collections anymore. This is one I absolutely had to have. Every song is worth hearing in its entirety. It’s nice to see that an artist can put out a complete collection with no fillers. If you love soulful music this is a must have for your collection.

Nice n Easy Soul Music

Laura Izibor is being compared to a lot of artists- Joss Stone, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys. Laura does share something in common with all those artists, but she separates herself somehow, maybe it's the production. The CD is pretty happy for a soul album, but the song "Yes (I'll Be Your Baby)" gets good n funky.

Nice Mellow Vibe

Wow. I really like her voice and her style of singing. When I downloaded and listened to her first single I couldn't wait for her album to come out. So when I downloaded it today, I wasn't disappointed. This is my type of music to mellow out to and write my thousands lines of code at work. ;)
