Magic Hour

New York's Scissor Sisters burst upon the scene in the mid-00s with a flashy, trendy style that now demands they stay aware of trends in order to best them. Their first two albums -- Scissor Sisters, Ta-Dah -- established them as a commercial juggernaut, while by 2010's Night Work, the competition was nipping at their heels, with plenty of co-opting of the group's outrageous sense of style and sound. However, no one does outrageousness better than this group. With Calvin Harris and Alex Ridha of Boys Noize co-producing, the group keeps the hooks coming and the eras shifting. "Baby Come Home" brings them near Elton John's mid-70s heights, while "Inevitable" delivers on the promise of late-70s Bee Gees. Diplo, Azealia Banks, Pharrell Williams, Stuart Price and Joan as Policewoman throw their support into the mix, while SS's Ana Matronic fires up for the electric "Let's Have A Kiki." "The Secret Life Of Letters" places the group behind the piano for an orchestrated ballad.
