iTunes Review

Jennifer Knapp’s first album in seven years both extends and departs from her earlier work. Letting Go appears in the wake of the acclaimed Christian singer/songwriter’s decision to come out as a lesbian, and there is a revelatory quality to these songs, etched in visceral language and urgent, guitar-driven melodies. Songs like “Inside,” “Dive In” and the title track find Knapp applying her full-throated vocals to life-affirming lyrics. In many ways, Letting Go is about self-acceptance and personal renewal, whether in terms of relationships (“Fallen”) or social identity (“Better Off”). Paul Moak’s production especially shines on the more subdued numbers, such as the gently rolling “Mr. Gray” and the warmly atmospheric “On Love.” Knapp comes across as vulnerable yet confident in these tracks, daring to be tender as well as defiant. A creative breakthrough on several fronts, Letting Go is an album of bracing folk-rock and disarming balladry, offered by an artist eager to have her say at last.

She's Back!

I have followed Jennifer Knapp since she came to to sing to our youth group before her debut album came out. She held a guitar and sang to us with no fanfare. I was mesmorized. I have a picture of her holding my son who is now 13 years old! I have all her albums and have missed her tremendously. This album makes up for all the years I have missed her. It answers the question "Where have you been?" Hidden in the lyrics you will find answers and if you listen closely you can follow her through a journey of redemption. I welcome her back to our home with open arms and an open mind and I can't wait to show my son that picture of an unknown singer holding him and tell him this is a true artist, tortured in every way, but an artist that rises above adversity and stands with pride. A great example of how we should live our lives, with truth and honesty. Welcome back Jennifer. Great album, great story.

Shaking my head

As a Christian myself, I am disappointed here in the comments of a number of self-professed Christian's out there. To judge and turn your back on someone simply for their choice is not a Christian principle. It is not left up to us to judge, but to pray. The review section is to review and rate the album, NOT the person and their decisions. So, if you are here simply to complain that she is a lesbian, I suggest getting into your prayer group and pray for her instead of blasting and bashing here on Itunes.

That said, Jennifer Knapp is a very talented musician and singer regardless of her chosen genre. Great stuff and glad she is using her talent again.

A real review

I just listened to the ablum and think wow Jennifer Knapp out did herself. Amazing art. I think this is a girl ablum, very creative, tons of energy, over all just great work. Spiritually is a different story. And too all those giving her bad reviews, it's about the music and not her spiritual state. Pray for her and love just as Christ loved you. Gays and Lesbians are humans too.
