Album Review
Due to the underachievement of their exceptional 1982 comeback album, Creatures of the Night, Kiss knew the time was right to drop the makeup, so in September 1983 the band shocked their fans by unmasking on MTV. Their first non-makeup album, Lick It Up, followed soon after and successfully re-established the band among the heavy metal masses worldwide. Kiss also reconnected with their stateside fans — Lick It Up was the band's first record to achieve gold status since 1980's Kiss Unmasked. The album's success was spurred by MTV's repeated airing of the imaginative video for the album's strong title track, and songs such as "Exciter," "Not for the Innocent," "A Million to One," and the rap-rocker "All Hell's Breaking Loose" confirmed that the band was back on the right track. Vinnie Vincent again proved to be a worthy replacement to original guitarist Ace Frehley but would unfortunately leave the band after the completion of the Lick It Up worldwide tour (eventually resurfacing with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion in the late '80s). Lick It Up is undoubtedly Kiss' best non-makeup album.

Rock Classic
by 58b85KISS has made some of the greatest rock albums to date. Lick It Up is a fantastic album and the perfect album for KISS to dispose of the makeup. Lick It Up reacquainted KISS to fans and introduced them to an entirely new audience. It is 1 of 3 perfect KISS albums: Lick It Up, Creatures of the Night and Destroyer.
Great Way to Reintroduce KISS to America
by KISS Fan '96KISS was a has been band when this album came out, at least in the US they were. This album along with the removal of the makeup saved the band from extinction. This ablum was stellar from start to finish and many songs became concerts staples. EG - Lick It Up, Fits Like a Glove and Young and Wasted.
Some great songs that were overlooked by the band on subsequent tours: Exciter, Not for the Innocent, All Hell's Breakin Loose, A Million to One and On the 8th Day. These songs are great and could have been played on following tours but playing them would mean that Paul and Gene were admitting that Vinnie Vincent made important and lasting contributions to the band. One can't see that happening, too many bad feelings between the two parties.
I give it 4 stars, for all of its greatness it's not as great as it was when I was a teenager in the 80's.
Really like it
by kissisthebestThis is a great album for the non-makeup years. Lick It Up was just a hit on the album. I think people should really listen to this. So buy this KISS fans!
