iTunes Review

Silk Degrees is the album that finally broke Boz Scaggs into the mainstream, selling several million copies upon initial release. A perfect melding of Scaggs’ many influences and interests — pop, R&B, New Orleans, blues, soul — Silk Degrees remains one of the finest albums of the 1970s, an essential mix of creative artistry and commercial firepower. Scaggs came of age with ambitions to somehow retain the intense soul of the ‘60s Stax-Volt catalog while adding a modern dimension. Slow Dancer, his previous release, with Motown producer Johnny Bristol, was a brilliant modernization of soul music but Silk Degrees’ effortless grooves (listen to the glide of “Georgia”) put it in a realm of its own. “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle” (both co-written with keyboardist David Paich) were the album’s biggest hits and stand among the era’s most definitive tracks. However, the blues-slide of “Jump Street” and the sea-breeze optimism of “What Can I Say” are every bit the perfect compliment to the well-known hits. This remastered expanded edition includes three live previously unreleased bonus tracks, the only available 1970s live tracks from his career.

Step Back in Time for the Boz man

by Scottiey

Man, I wore this record out when it came out in 1977 or there about. Funny, old songs pop into your head and they sound, cool, cool, cool. Thank goodness for the 30-second clips. This is still one of my all time favorite albums, but only Lowdown stands the test of time for me. It was the biggest hit of the album. For me, it was coming into hear the Eagles at the old Spectrum in Philly and hearing "Lowdown" echo through the arena as the Boz man was the opening act: "I wonder, wonder, wonder, who ... that dirty Lowdown." Check it out!

still his best of all

I was in college when this album came out. We listened to it every day. Although it came out in 1976, the songs are timeless and reach across generations. One of the best dance/party albums ever. Georgia, Lowdown, Lido Shuffle will get you up out of your seat! Enjoy.

Hey iTunes knock it off! We're All Alone track on Silk Degrees is NOT the original version

by MrLumpy

Do not buy without listening first. The original version can only be found on the "Hits" version. So scroll down first till you find it. Why itunes does this sometimes is beyond me. Hey iTunes could you at least put an asterick next to a song when you do that?
