iTunes Review
With a baby-face and a shoulder-length bobbed haircut, young Jonny Lang didn't look like he had reason to sing the blues. But when he opened his mouth, or played his trusty Telecaster, he sure sounded like he felt something sad down deep inside. When his R&B-tinged album Lie to Me was released in 1997 Lang was only 15, but he sang as if seeing through the eyes of a Delta bluesman, and his playing had the feel of a seasoned Texas slasher. Key tracks: "Good Morning Little School Girl," "Missing Your Love," "Lie to Me"

Blues Prodigy!
I saw Jonny at a benefit at HOB in Chicago at the time of this album. Really skinny kid hiding behind hair in his face without shoes. He played several of these songs and played with Buddy Guy. You can feel the intensity and the gift that Jonny has for not just the licks, which he has, but also his timing and vocal depth. At one point in this show after Buddy had smoked a lead Jonny, up on his toes, screamed into a series of runs and bends, perfect feel and control, Buddy stopped playing and starred then started backing off the stage. Jonny came over and they riffed every 5th bar leaning on each other. I have seen Buddy many times and we all knew we were with a prodigy! Jonny has had the nerve to build his career on his voice instead of being a Wayne-Shepard, which he easily could be, and mine the real heart of the Blues with a little R&B and you can hear it all getting started here!
Straight up Blues
He keeps getting better and better. This is straight up blues made for dark bars and smokey rooms. A Quitter Never Wins, There's Gotta Be a Change... sit back and rock out!
