Leave the Lies to the Liars

My God, the Used have come a loooonng way in their music. We all saw them underwater and dedicated in their debut self-tilted release. We saw them swim to the surface right below the ice with determination in “In Love and Death”. And now, we can all see them break through that barrier with amazement in “Lies For The Liars”. This has got to be their best release ever! This record has a mix of all kind of stuff they did in their past and some new creative stuff. They have exciting, hard, and pulsating tracks (“The Ripper”, “Hospital”) that deliver ground breaking sound with unbelievable riffs. They have amazing ballads and slower songs (“Earthquake”, “Find A Way”). And they’ve delivered some new stuff (“The Bird and the Worm”, “Paralyzed”, “Pretty Handsome Awkward”) that I would have never expected to be The Used at all! I’ve given a short review for each song below, just in case you can’t decide. But it’s amazing! 01 The Ripper This song is just groundbreaking with a monster riff at the beginning and some weirdly awesome vocals that sends shivers down your spine. 02 Pretty Handsome Awkward Wow! This song blew me away at first listen! The riff is so catchy and hard-hitting. Bert’s vocals in this song are just sensational with some minor screaming in verse 2 (favorite part). 03 The Bird and the Worm Ooohhh…this is a sweet song. So mysteriously silent and secretive until the chorus hits you and you feel like The Used is playing their music outside your headset. NICE song. 04 Earthquake Love at first listen, really. This has got to be one of the best rock ballads I’ve heard in a long time. The guitar is so sweetly comforting even though it’s gets pretty loud and amazing. 05 Hospital This is one cool song. This is the song where their CD title “Lies For the Liars” comes from. I love how Bert is acting and screaming like he was being taken to the hospital in verse 2 and the chorus just nails you. 06 Paralyzed One of the Used’s most catchiest songs I’ve ever heard. Bert’s vocals are the best in this song. The bridge is right on key and the chorus is soooo catchy. Cool guitar. 07 With Me Tonight This one is little more poppy but it’s still a great listen, of course. You can tell that this is Bert singing in this one. It reminds me of their first CD. It’s nice. 08 Wake The Dead Everyone I’ve talked to about this album so far thinks this song is awesome. It reminds me of a blend of their first and second CD. Pretty cool song though. 09 Find A Way A great slower song on the record. I liked it a lot the second time I listened to it. It’s so comforting and almost made me fall asleep on the first listen through (cause it’s comforting). 10 Liar Liar (Burn in Hell) Haha, I love this song. This is the most EXPLICIT song on their album probably because they say the F bomb like 8 times! But I love the lyrics and it’s entertaining. The guitar and energy is so awesome, you just have to listen. 11 Smother Me Another great slow song. It reminds me of “Find A Way” but lighter in tone. The vocals are great and the song is comforting as well as memorable. DEFINITELY DOWNLOAD (no order): 1. Pretty Handsome Awkward 2. The Bird and the Worm 3. Earthquake 4. Hospital 5. Paralyzed WHAT SHOULD I DO?: [X] Buy the whole physical album [ ] Buy album on iTunes [ ] Buy only “Definitely Download” songs [ ] Eh, don’t bother.

Read Up On Your Bands

All of you who claim to be The Used fans and yet are complaining about how they have changed so much and sound so different I have a little bit of advice for you...READ UP ON YOUR BANDS (Espically if they are you so called 'Favorite'). On Wikipedia on both The Used page and the page for Lies For the Liars it had an interview with the band on which Bert said, "We want to get away from the Emo/Screamo sence which is eating us from the inside out. Our next studio album will be a harder rock album, it will be different." he continued to say, "People who liked us before will like us on this album...people who like my voice before will like it now." You can't expect him to scream like he had on the first album. BERT HAD THROAT SURGERY! Sorry guys but all of you who thinks it sucks cuz he doesn't scream and it sounds to different maybe next time you should read up about your 'Favorite Band' before you start to complain. This album is amazing and has so much feeling in it and it should be treated as such. Thank you for your time. That is all *SnOwMaN*

Amazing

I am simply amazed by this album, it is not only amazing emo music, but the SUed has managed to alter their style without detracting quality. If you arent going to buy the whole album (which you should!) definately check out The Ripper, Prettey Handsome Awkward, the Bird and the Worm, Paralyzed, Wake the dead, and Liar Liar.

Biography

Formed: Orem, UT

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

The members of the Used had to overcome poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse, not to mention the straitlaced attitudes of their hometown of Orem, Utah, to bring their screamo-tinged brand of post-hardcore to life. But they persevered and earned a contract with Reprise Records, releasing their self-titled debut album in June 2002. Having only played a handful of shows around Orem prior to their record's release, the band — vocalist Bert McCracken, guitarist Quinn Allman, bassist Jeph Howard,...
