Solid disk... two great performances and one good performance..
Excellent performances by all involved. Although, I prefer the Sony recording of the "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra" available on "Ligeti Project 1". The second movement of the piano concerto sounds very good here, I like how the wind instruments seem to howl. This album has the best recording of the "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra" I'm aware of and the cello concerto is comprable to the Palm recording on "Ligeti Project 3". Excellent music.
I am blown away
The performance of the piano concerto can't be criticized. Aimard is undeniabley the best pianist in the world when it comes to contemporary works, and respectable as a performer of older compositions as well. He was a close friend of Ligeti, along with other fabulous modern composers, the most famous of which being Olivier Messiaen, and also i a founding member of the Ensemble InterContemporian. The cello concerto is flawless and expressive, as is the violin concerto. These are the best recordings of all the said compositions by Ligeti. I reccomend this to any intelligent listener of music, regardless of any biases towards contemporary classical.
Masterpieces
These are superb performances of true masterpieces.
