iTunes Review
With its deep synthetic notes gripping the beats for dear life and its vocals reaching for revelatory insights that sound as if they were cruising just out of reach, Cloud Cult, or more specifically, Craig Minowa climbs through space and time looking for a way to make his dreams come true. A new dad — the band was put on sabbatical until things settled down — Minova has a wave of optimism coursing through his veins and the ebullience can be heard in the way the album reaches joyous heights. The vocals twisting through “You’ll Be Bright (Invocation, Part 1)” recharge the Beach Boys for another century. “The Exploding People” takes a Bo Diddley beat and chops it up into something Laurie Anderson might find useful. “Forces of the Unseen” sits behind a piano for a vamp worthy of Broadway; the orchestration demands a full-cast approach. By the time of “There’s So Much Energy In Us,” it’s as if this album concerning space travel has found it’s heart right here on Earth, sitting restfully, patiently waiting for mankind to invite its magic.
Customer Reviews
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!
Leave it to the creativity of Craig Minowa and Cloud Cult to successfully mesh the theme of space travel with the joys and responsibilities of new birth and parenthood, and the mysteries of life, in an absolutely stunning manner. At my relatively old age it has been very exciting to watch and listen as Craig and his band have evolved into what is my favorite indie rock band. Much of the music in their early albums was, for me, too punky, but beginning with their "Happy Hippopotamus" and absolutely outstanding "Meaning of 8" albums I became a huge fan. The excellent "Feel Good Ghosts" further cemented my loyalty, and now, with "Light Chasers," I believe that Cloud Cult has reached the apex of it's career. Craig's music and lyrics, with their emotionally moving content, and the band's overall musicianship, have reached a new depth, richness and power on this album; and Craig continues to use his unique mixing and sound effects to further etch in the Cloud Cult brand. I purchased a pre-release copy of this album several weeks ago and have listened to it dozens of times. I enjoy it more each time I hear it. "Light Chasers" is one of the finest albums I have ever purchased--a serious and stunning achievement from a truly great band.
Nice.
Cloud Cult's concept album in space is like a breath of fresh air in a vacuum.
Lovin it
The energy with the full sound is such a perfect contrast for his voice. I can't wait to see these songs performed live. Just another reason to be proud to be Minnesotan!!!
