Are you ready to rumble? With their second album Light It Up, Rev Theory (formerly Revolution Theory) teased their fans by licensing the title track as the theme song to WrestleMania XXIV before the album's release — and what a perfect marriage between music and muscle. The song's brawny guitar riffs, beefy bass lines, sternum-rattling rhythms, and singer Rich Luzzi's raspy wail all perfectly accompany the brutal body slams, powerful pummeling, and off-the-ropes lunges that make professional televised wrestling seem unfeigned. Solidifying their place as the wrestling band of 2008, Rev Theory also gave the album's anthemic opening cut "Hell Yeah" to WWE for use as the theme song to One Night Stand. Even the slower post grunge ballads are fight club friendly. "Broken Bones" uses brawling metaphors to touch on human relationships and the brooding "Ten Years" is one of those versatile, open ended numbers that would sound equally appropriate for supplementing a slow dance as for a smack down. The barbed melodies and well forged songs throughout the album raise the bar well above Rev Theory's 2005 debut. Sophomore slump successfully dodged.

Hell F'n Yeah!
Weather they're Rev Theory or Revelation Theory...they still rock. If you like rock, you'll like them!!
They're dropping like flies...
I can't tell you how many good rock bands I've seen sell out in the past 2 years. These guys are just another example. Usually I'll write reviews because I wanted to state my opinion on the album (as does everyone), but this review I'm writing is mostly out of anger. Adema, Strata, Godsmack, Linkin Park, Bullet For My Valentine, Atreyu, Drowning Pool...I could go on all day. Every single one of these bands has changed their sound, and it really bugs me because I actually enjoy listening to music these guys are GOOD at playing, not a whole CD full of attempts to get on the Top 20. I don't want to hear Strata sing pop songs, I don't want to hear Godsmack become southern rock, I don't want to see Linkin Park sing a whole CD full of BALLADS! These are all ROCK bands, make ROCK music! It's what you're good at! Instead, I'm forced to watch another band that I had extremely high hopes for sell out and change their sound, because these guys just want the money. Whatever, I can live with that, that's their decision. It's just frustrating when you look forward to a band's new album, and you get this garbage. This CD only (barely) got 2 stars from me because I know these guys actually have talent, they just chose not to use it when they made these songs. This isn't even worth a free download off some site, let alone $8. At least they made Truth Is Currency before they decided to throw away all their talent, because if they keep making CDs like this, I won't be going near any of them. As for if this review was "helpful" or not, I don't really care, but I had to get this off my chest. Anyone who enjoys this album, more power to you, but personally I couldn't care less about "Rev Theory" (That's not even their real name!) anymore.
New name, new album, same good solid rock
Revalation Theory, now known simply as Rev Theory, released an album back in 2005 called "Truth is Currency. Since then, they have changed their name, madeover their sound, and definetly put a more mainstream influence into their look and music, which in no way is a bad thing because as great as "Truth is Currency" was, "Light It Up" cranks the volume on their music way up and shoves it in your face. This album is filled with tracks that are ready-made to kick a hole in the roof of an arena. "Hell Yeah" and "Light it Up" are the obvious choices due to their arena anthem sounds and WWE airplay. However "Favorite Disease", "Kill the Headlights", and "Falling Down" have the thick riffs and sweeping choruses that make Rev Theory who they are. Rev Theory definetly has an agressive sound and straight forward, in-your-face rock that isnt seen enough these days. The lyrics on this album are also alot more to the point than "Truth is Currency", which makes this album alot more listener friendly. There will obviously be fans on Rev or Revalation Theory who prefer their old, "underground" feel and previous album more than "Light it Up". Some might even call them sell outs. It is a little dissapointing I'll admit that after 3 years, their are only 10 new tracks ("Slow Burn" was originally on their debut album as a hard rockin track and it isnt very good in its acoustic form). Those little things aside; The way I see it, they took their great band, and made it even that much better.
