iTunes Review

Miranda Lee Richards was brought up in San Francisco by underground comic artist parents who introduced her to R. Crumb. While a teen, Metallica's Kirk Hammett taught her some guitar and in her early 20s she sang with neo-psychedelic kooks the Brian Jonestown Massacre. So one might expect that Richards plays perverted speed metal tinged with an acid-rock edge, but in truth she sounds more like the love child of Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons. Light of X radiates with the bygone spirits of Los Angeles' canyon-filtered folk-rock and '60s chamber pop. The liquid pedal steel notes, Hammond organ, electric 12-string jangle, Glockenspiel, mandolin, and Mellotron all blend together with beautiful alchemy as played by members of Mazzy Star, Beachwood Sparks, Wallflowers, and Mars Volta. Richards' feathery voice floats above heartbreaking piano notes on the opening "Breathless," though "Early November" best exemplifies how her sailing harmonies and crystalline inflections define her talent. It's her magic, lilting voice that truly brings these songs to life. Just listen to "Mirror At the End" and try not to fall in love.

Amazing Talent and a Gorgeous Voice

I had been wondering what happened to Miranda, but now she's finally back with a mesmerizing new album. It's a strong follow up to The Herethereafter album which was released in 2001 (I can't believe it's been 8 years.) In the build up to this album, she released an EP which you should check out too.

Anyone associated with Anton Newcombe creates great music!!

If you've seen the movie Dig! you know that Miranda has some appearances. This album is amazing and should be bought!!! Anton Newcombe is so inspiring.

Impossible to dissappoint!

First saw and heard Ms. Richards on PBS 4 or 5 years ago at about 2 a.m. Ordered The Herethereafter on Ebay the next day. Have been following her website ever since, very impatiently awating this release. I grew up on classic rock and Heavy Metal, and I must say that only Miranda has opened my mind up to GREAT voices such as hers and the likes of Allison Krauss. Miranda's is one of the most angelic and settling voices ever, and I will gladly wait, very unpatiently albeit, for her next effort. This is one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard. Fantastic Job Miranda! Thanks.
