iTunes Review
Instinct fuels Common during his pre-artistic makeover era. The most enjoyable tracks are the ones where Com lets his guard down and lets us peek inside his mind. "The Question" ponders the imponderable, in a way that Tribe Called Quest did on "What?" He exacts revenge on some stick-up kids on "Payback is a Grandmother." The finest moment is "The Sixth Sense," a collaboration with DJ Premier that has everything a hip-hop track should have: smart lyrics, sharp hook, plus beats and scratches. With Common flying by the seat of his impulses, Like Water For Chocolate serves as a reminder that he is a rapper first and social theorist second.

The prequal to BE
This was the first Common album I ever owned, and it prompted me to purchase his entire collection. Its a well rounded album with a song for every mood you could possibly be in. If you ar just tuning into common after hearing "BE", you will love this because this is basically the prequal to it. The most important song on this album is "A song for Assata". It tells the story of black panther Assata Shakur who was wrongfully accused of murder, put in jail, and escaped to presently live in cuba. There is book based on her life, READ IT!!! Mos Def, Black Thought, Bilal, Cee-Lo, Slum Village and D'Angelo all make guest appearences and rock the mic well. Get This NOW
common at his best
ok. so this is how my story goes. i wasn't too aware of common as a hiphop artist at first. i'd hear his song "go" and "the corner" on mtv, but it didn't necessarily attract me to it that much. i later say his preformance on chappelles show, where he preformed "the food" with kanye. This song sparked my interest in his music and as soon as possible, i went and bought his new cd. i fell in love with the cd. at that time, be was my favorite album of all time (and still i love it, just not as much as i did). so, after hearing about all these pieces made by common, i decided to check out more of his music. i soon bought this cd, because it was the only cd that seemed to interest me on iTMS. i listened to the cd, and i have to say this is probably even better than BE and his lyrics all have a positive meaning to them. the beats are very good too. if u do not wish to purchase the entire album (its only 8 bucks), buy 6th sense, the question, the light, dooint, and my favorite, cold blooded. if your sick of the direction hiphop is headed in, purchase this because it's refreshing, and something different but good compared to what most people listen to now
Classic LP - Solid Play
This is one of Common's Classic's and a must for any hip hop collection. I would give this a 4 and a Half, because Resurection is the greatest Common LP, but this proves Common's boundary pushing capabilities. Highly Respected. Production by Jay Dee, James Poyser, D'Angelo, and the Soul Quarians, this LP redefined, the neo soul/jay dilla hip hop sound. The CD is a journey trip and one of the last to feature great primo production (The 6th Sense) the lyrics on this are always on point from The Question, Geto Heaven, and A Song for Assata, this LP leaves nothing missing. Oh yeah and the ladies love 'The Light' buy now.
