One of the great trumpet albums you will ever buy!
Jim is well known for his incredible facility with the trumpet's upper register, and in that vein this album represents his masterwork. The title track kicks of the tour de force with a lip trill on a high D and gliss into a fat double D, and it only gets better. Jim also demonstrates his writing talent with complex horn lines and compelling melodies; the humorously titled "Mattress Mambo" is a standout, and the triple C he drills in the final moments is legendary. For you total high note geeks, "Please Have Your Passport Ready" will will have you falling out of your chair reaching for you axe and the smallest mouthpiece you own. Other standout tracks include "Silenod In The Mirror", the catchy ballad "Only In a Dream", and no less than Roger Ingram fills out the horn lines with Jim on "Bugle Boys." This album is a must own for anyone who loves Maynard Ferguson or Chase.
Great Album for Maynard Fans!
If you are looking for an album with screaming high notes like trumpeter Maynard Ferguson--look no more. I only wish I would have discovered Jim Manley before I moved from St. Louis to see him in person. Keep recording songs like "Lip Trip"!!!
