iTunes Review
For a sense of Tom Petty’s longevity, consider that the Heartbreakers’ debut LP was released in 1976, a year in which Abba were the best selling act in the world. For over 30 years, Petty has remained remarkably faithful to the course set by “American Girl” and “Breakdown,” songs that still get played on millions of radios every day. The decades changed, the trends shifted, but Petty stayed the same. Even the most ambitious song on here, “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” contains echoes of the Byrds and Bob Dylan, Petty’s two unchanging idols. The only major variation between this 2008 edition of Greatest Hits and the 1993 version is the substitution of the impassioned Stevie Nicks duet “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” for the rather bland Thunder Newman cover “Something In the Air.” For diehard Petty fans, the improved audio quality will be the real draw. The difference is particularly noticeable on the early tracks which once were tinny but now sound full and sharp — in particular, Benmont Tench’s Wurlitzer keyboard on “Breakdown” has never sounded so rich. If you only know “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” or “I Won’t Back Down” from the radio, be prepared for these classic tunes to reveal themselves like newly varnished hot rods.

Incredible
I'm only 14 years old, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have always been my favorite band since I was 10 years old. His music has changed my life. Tom Petty shares the spotlight with his band, especially Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench. Mike and Benmont are just as important to the band as Tom, adding very important and good guitar and keyboard riffs. Stan Lynch also did a great job playing drums in all these songs, and it's too bad he had to leave the band. In my opinion, the 2 most famous songs, Free Fallin and Mary Jane's Last Dance, are not the best songs on this album. The best songs are Refugee, Here Comes My Girl, The Waiting, Runnin' Down a Dream, and Learning to Fly. I have met this whole band except Tom Petty, and they are extremely nice people. These guys have been going at it for almost 40 years and are the most underrated rock band. For me, they are better than The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. I hope these guys keep on rocking and make another album. Brovo Tom and the rest of you Heartbreakers!
$1.29 ??
Seriously, this $1.29 nonsense is getting a little out of hand. It's really lame that just because it's their most popular song, they have to raise the rate.
Good Old Classic Rock
I love all these songs. Praise for greatest hits. Go Tom Petty!
