iTunes Review
Although San Jose, California’s Los Olvidados remain more obscure than fellow founding fathers of the ‘80s skate-punk family tree, they were an integral root. Los Olvidados (translation: The Forgotten Ones) first assembled in 1980, playing parties and punk shows before debuting their first recordings on the 1982 Bay Area compilation, Not So Quiet On The Western Front and Thrasher Magazine’s Skate Rock series. They split in the mid-‘80s immediately after recording a full-length album, leaving behind unmixed studio tapes. Fast forward to 2002 and the band reunited following the release of Listen To This! (Original Recordings 1981– 1983). These songs have aged well. The punchy opener “Listen to You” sounds youthfully explosive while “Something New” rages against boredom with timeless angst and heavy guitar riffs. Musically, the songs sound influenced by first generation punk like Radio Birdman, the Saints, and the Stooges, but singer Mike Voss’ snarling West Coast drawl sounds more akin to T.S.O.L, The Adolescents and the Faction.

San Jose's Best Ever
HEY! Where did my other review go? Dammit! OK - well, here's kind of what I wrote: Legendary band that surpassed the sum of its parts, as all the greatest ones do. Opened for every big punk act that came thru SF back in the early '80s and *smoked* every one of them. Mike V. was on a bender and out of control, antagonizing crowds for the sheer thrill of it, Mike F was (and is) the best guitar player punk has produced (the dude's right hand speed should be measured in MegaHertz), Matt E's tom rolls literally sounded like machine gun fire and Ray's bass playing set the bar for the rest of us. Their recent reunion shows proved it all over again, 20+ years later. Play It Loud.
PUNK ROCKS
These guys and Free Beer are the best SF punk bands without a doubt!!!!
