Gorgeous
This is gorgeous music, I am not Christian but enjoy the work very much. Remember vividly a walk on a cold, dark night with this blaring in my ears.....

Everything falls into place to make "Litany" a really excellent piece. One of the world's greatest living composers, performed by some of his most talented and experienced champions, stunningly recorded by ECM. And the icing on the cake, if you are reading this review in your mother tongue, is that these prayers of Saint John Chrysostom are sung in English. It's devotional music, yes, but it also swells up with excitement and passion - just as the choir asks to be delivered from passions.
"Psalom" meanders about mysteriously for its duration and serves as the program's intermezzo. People who want their music to "go somewhere" will likely have no use for it but the music is at least not hard on the ears. "Trisagion" is a more dramatic and more substantial work. How the music relates to the Trinity I do not know but it certainly makes for a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to the disc.
There is no shortage of white-covered Part/ECM albums out there (with at least one more on the way soon) but don't overlook this one.
BEAUTIFUL
Arvo Part's music is - in my opinion - some of the most beautiful modern church music today. This, and his other compositions, are a muct buy.
