less twee belle & sebastian
gentleman reg's newest venture – little buildings – is quite reminiscent of a slightly less twee version of belle & sebastian's aesthetic
New listener? This is it! Devoted fan? It's a compilation.
If you haven't been lucky enough to discover Gentleman Reg before, then you're in for some great music. This is a U.S. only release, fyi. Reg Vermue, aka Gentleman Reg, has made something of a name for himself in Canada as a solo artist, as well as a member of The Hidden Cameras, and the gay wonderboy sidekick of Broken Social Scene, and "It's Not Safe" appears in the film Shortbus by John Cameron Mitchell in which Reg had a cameo role. His previous solo efforts are rather hard to find here in the U.S. and I'd recommend getting the full meal deal if you can, but if you can't this is basically a compiliation ep that delivers a handful of solo highlights.
