iTunes Review

When Tori Amos chose the title for this 1992 album, she clearly underestimated its impact. Toppling the Richter Scale, Little Earthquakes, made most of the confessional records before it seem like big fat lies. Whether it's the terrifyingly a cappella, "Me and a Gun," (in which Amos tells the story of her rape), the questioning and combative "Crucify," or the quiet epiphanies of "Silent All These Years", these songs speak of complex and often ugly truths. When Amos sings, she doesn't just remember her experiences but relive them. Her voice-a breathy smoldering inferno-bonds to her melodies as if the two are engaged in a perpetual life-or-death game tug-of-war. Wearing her Kate Bush influences proudly, Amos's stunning piano arrangements sometimes rush into lush orchestrations as if they've been waiting to break loose. But the power of this record extends beyond the ornate beauty of its songs. No record did more to offer promise to a generation of women songwriters, and more importantly, to a generation of women, who found in Amos's voice the strength to release their own.

Really ...

Really ... I mean really ... I am the first person to review this album. This is only the cornerstone of everything that Tori Amos would go on to accomplish. For that matter, this is the work that launched her entire career, and in my opinion, captured the raw, unbridled emotion that would later become the hallmark of her music. Even further, the raw, uncensored, no excuses sound that, again in my opinion, that she was never quite able to recapture. Boys for Pele probably opened her music up to a broader audience, but it was Little Earthquakes that defined her sound. I have been a fan for many years, having seen her in concert a half dozen times, but nothing ever came close to capturing the emotion of this album. If you only became a fan in recent years, highly encourage you to buy this album, to truly understand where much of the power that is Tori Amos originates from.

This Album Saved My Life

I know Tori is not gay, but this album gave me the strength to come out. It's more than music, it's life changing.

This album is a must have for any Tori fan!

Like the first reviewer of this record, I am astonished that there aren't more accalades out there. There aren't enough words to describe how amazing and profound Little Earthquakes is. This album is what got me through my adolescence!

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Tori Amos (born Myra Ellen Amos) was one of several female singer/songwriters who combined the stark lyrical attack of alternative rock with a distinctly '70s musical approach, creating music that fell between the orchestrated meditations of Kate Bush and the stripped-down poetics of Joni Mitchell. In addition, she revived the singer/songwriter traditions of the '70s while reestablishing the piano as a rock & roll instrument. With her 1992 album Little...
