When Detroit indie rockers Spy Island proclaim "Super-size, it's the American way!," they are clearly being ironic, since their particular brand of sweetly spastic lo-fi is certainly not super-sized. Instead, the duo crafts quick and concise pop songs with abrupt tempo shifts and melodic hooks that stick like the gum all the hip kids are chewing. Recorded in seven days using what sounds like nearly every instrument under the sun and populated with bright harmonies and humming keyboards, Little Fires is a perfect summer soundtrack, just long enough to get you to the 7-11 and back, just fun enough to make you want to hear it again as soon as it's over.
