The Good Stuff

I just saw a new commercial with a bunch of dogs running and the song playing was Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak." These days you don't have to wait too long before you hear that song or "The Boys Are Back In Town" one place or another. But awareness of Thin Lizzy in the United States has always been woefully low beyond those two songs, while in Europe, they were massively successful in their day. This album is an excellent way to kick off your interest in Thin Lizzy -- it has the two singles most people know and adds a wealth of other excellent material. One of my favorite things about Thin Lizzy is how they can play slow, melodic stuff ("Still In Love With You") to hard rock ("Are You Ready") seamlessly. "Dancing In the Moonlight" is one of my favorites, generating a jazzy, funky sound. A trivia tidbit: Huey Lewis would become a star in his own right a little while after this album was released but on it, he can be heard playing harmonica on one track.

LIVE

When rockers think of live they think of Frampton, KISS Alive!, Made in Japan, and Allman Bors at Fillmore. Their are many great live albums, but this is my favorite. Scott Gorham and Brian RObertson play at virtuso levels. Buy it.

i'm writing the third itunes review of the best live LP ever!!!!!

i saw Thin lizzy live five times. Phil lynott was the consummate frontman. he had real charisma. and he always surrounded himself with the best musicians. this album captures them at their best. but, if you ever saw them, they always gave their best. lizzy was essentially a live act that did records. this album is notable for it's itunes introduction of the previously unavailable bob seger penned "Rosalie". it doesn't sound anything like bob seger. and it rocks in an unholy manner. listening to it alone will ensure you buy the whole album. i mean, look at the cover. that's not an illustration. that's a photograph!

Despite a huge hit single in the mid-'70s ("The Boys Are Back in Town") and becoming a popular act with hard rock/heavy metal fans, Thin Lizzy are still, in the pantheon of '70s rock bands, underappreciated. Formed in the late '60s by Irish singer/songwriter/bassist Phil Lynott, Lizzy, though not the first band to do so, combined romanticized working-class sentiments with their ferocious, twin-lead guitar attack. As the band's creative force, Lynott was a more insightful and intelligent writer than...
