...well then I feel blessed and honored. This album was my first experience with Coltrane 15 years ago. It changed what music could be and meant to me. I further immersed myself in his other works and haven't looked back. This is an amazing live album...

Live At Birdland

Anything by Coltrane live is a must have! The live recordings truly provide you with the essence of the man and the musician. This recording and Newport "63 are two of the best. Alabama is remarkable because of the civil rights struggles it portrays... an activist in his music. Long LIVE the TRANE!

Despite a relatively brief career (he first came to notice as a sideman at age 29 in 1955, formally launched a solo career at 33 in 1960, and was dead at 40 in 1967), saxophonist John Coltrane was among the most important, and most controversial, figures in jazz.
