Album Review
Indigenous' second full-length effort, Live at Pachyderm Studio, captures a 1998 live studio performance and includes the band's acclaimed cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Red House." Originals like "Things We Do" and "Blues This Morning" sound vital and dynamic, proving that the group is one of the most interesting contemporary blues-rock acts.
Customer Reviews
Incredible!
Mato is one of the greatest guitarists I have ever heard, if you disagree, listen to Red House and you will see that it rivals Hendrix's version, and in my opinion, surpases it. Buy the album, there is not a single song that you will want to switch away from!
Where Do I Start?
My First Indigenous CD, and I was hooked. (Hence the user name) Blues This Morning, Begin to Wonder, and the long; but worth the price of admission at any of thier concerts, I Wonder Why, and Red House keep this disk smokin in my CD Player for seven years now. Oh yeah, and Bring Back That Day is so lyriclly significant to my life today, it feels like a theme song. And if you like what you've downloaded, don't leave without downloading Untitled track #10. If you've never heard Indigenous before, prepare to be hooked. Download and enjoy.
An Undiscovered Classic!!
Some artists have not benefitted from the exposure that they deserve. Mato Nanji and Indigenous definitely fall into this category. Living in South Dakota, I used to call Indigenous one of 'SD's Best Kept Secrets. I've had the pleasure of seeing this band quite a few times. Listening to Mato Nanji deconstruct the guitar live gives me the chills that I have only experienced ONE other time: watching Stevie Ray Vaughn live in concert here about a month or two before his death. This CD was recorded in 1998 when Indigenous was just starting out and it's members barely out of their teens. One listen to it and you will be amazed. Mato Nanji IS the next GREAT guitar player and if you don't believe me - listen to 'Red House' and compare his version to ANY of the other blues guitarists out there today. Mato effortlessly blows them off the stage!! Each of the tracks on this CD is a showcase for Mato Nanji and the rest of his tight group. And as you listen, remember that this is EARLY in their career (If you want to hear how Indigenous has matured - check out 'Chasing the Sun' from 2006). Like all the GREAT groups, Indigenous is best heard live. And this LIVE studio album gives the best approximation of what that experience is like. Of all the albums I own, Indigenous's 'Live at the Pachyderm Studio' has become the one disc I can't live without.
