iTunes Review

Unplugged albums are just about mandatory for any veteran pop/rock artist, and Dave Matthew has been down that road already, but this recording — featuring Matthews paired once again with cohort Tim Reynolds — more than justifies its existence. The duo turns this concert of old favorites, new tunes and well-selected covers into an intimate listening experience, with lots of chatty commentary and extended acoustic guitar flights. Matthews taps the emotional cores of familiar numbers like “Gravedigger” and “Crash Into Me,” while Reynolds has revelatory moments of his own with “You Are My Sanity” and “Betrayal.” Matthews’ gargled vocal slurs and thorny phrasing are easier to appreciate in this stripped-down context — without the sometimes cluttered arrangements of his band getting in the way, he draws out the inner fire coursing through “Grace Is Gone,” “Some Devil,” “Crush” and other tunes. Renditions of Neil Young’s “Down By The River” and Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” compliment the originals nicely. Matthews fanatics will no doubt delight in this release, but even Dave’s doubters will come away impressed by the fluency and bite of these performances.

Customer Reviews

Worth every penny

First of all 28 tracks for $12.99 is a huge bargain. As it was said before, this album really show off what dave and tim are all about: jamming. It has basically a career spanning setlist. Older stuff like Crash, Lie in Our Graves, #41 to newer stuff like Cornbread and Sister. Lie in Our Graves definately shines over everything else. I really like Cornbread and Eh Hee. Old Dirt Hill also is really really good, definately much better than the Stand Up version of the track. This album is great, worth the buy.

A Must Have

Not only is the price amazing but the quality of sound, the power of the audience, the guitars the voice of Dave... to not buy this CD would be a huge loss on your part. Easily my favorite live performance CD it offers the best of Tim and Dave and has many of there popular songs and is a good chance to listen to a variety of there works. A must have for all that love music.

The Dynamic Duo Strikes Again!

Fantastic release by D&T, then again it would be hard to think of a bad show to release when it comes to these two. Overall, a great show, with old favorites mixed in with some newer songs and Dave solo material. Needless to say, the two sound amazing together. Tim, the guitar wizard, and Dave the master songwriter. And a very clever way to make even more $$$ with the bonus discs. Never ceases to amaze me...

Formed in the early '90s by South African vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews, the Dave Matthews Band presented a more pop-oriented version of the Grateful Dead crossed with elements of jazz, funk, and the worldbeat explorations of Paul Simon and Sting. Matthews populated the group with several Virginia-based musicians — bassist Stefan Lessard, saxophonist Leroi Moore, violinist Boyd Tinsley, drummer Carter Beauford, and short-lived keyboardist Peter Griesar — and the band built up a strong...
