iTunes Review
Born Matthew Miller, Matisyahu initially seemed a novelty: a Lubavitch Hasidic Jew rapping and singing over a reggae groove. Except it became clear under further inspection that his music was not a novelty, but a careful construction of the various elements that had influenced the young man as much as his religion. His first volume of recordings from a Texas bar, Live At Stubb’s, helped cement his reputation and now six years later Matisyahu returns with a new backing group, the Dub Trio, to create the sharpest, loosest, most powerful Matisyahu release to date. There’s a brilliant haze falling over “Mist Rising,” an electronica-tinge to “Darkness Into Light” and a trippy, experimental taste to “Youth.” The great sensitivity he brings to “I Will Be Light” could substitute for much lite-FM balladry. “One Day” continues Matisyahu’s pacifist views as he imagines a day with no more war. His voice is in tremendous form and the new band adds a vibrant edge to every tune.

Matisyahu: Is No Joke....
Matisyahu shares the love of his culture through the music of others. Matisyahu, a American Hasidic Jewish Reggae musician is no joke. He has alot to say and exploits his words through the music that brings those words alive. The use of classic Reggae sounds and vocals, mixed with Rap, Hip/Hop and some solid Rock riffs, can really make those of whom appreciate diversification in a musicians art. His vocals are real and filled with emotion reflecting the background of his culture. His music is strong, fun, and draws you into the sounds of the genres he chose to exploit in his music. Lets not criticize nor discriminate what this artist has to offer and enjoy what he has brought to the music world, that in a way, is not often performed. I hope we continue to see Matisyahu's art in this industry, so we may enjoy what he has to offer for many years to come.
