Originally formed in Atlanta in 1999, Mastodon has since become one of the most popular and consistently impressive metal bands working today. From their humble beginnings, they have morphed into legitimate superstars, touring the globe with pioneers like Slayer and Metallica, performing on late-night talk shows, licensing their music to film and video games, and earning praise from even decidedly non-metal institutions like NPR. Unlike some groups that just nail a certain sound or theme and repeat it infinitely, Mastodon are unafraid to tangle with different influences, oddball time signatures, and sophisticated lyrical concepts; their second album Leviathan was based on Moby Dick, while 2009's Crack the Skye is about a quadriplegic's out-of-body experiences. Live At the Aragon showcases their tremendous live show, and features them performing Crack the Skye in its entirety, plus older favorites like "Mother Puncher" and "Aqua Dementia," ending with an excellent cover of the Melvins' "The Bit." The perfect balance of brutality, technical chops, and advanced imaginations, this is just great from start to finish.

THE MIGHTY MASTODON!!!!
Live from Chicago I give you Mastodon. I was at this show and it rocked my world. I assume only hardcore fans will buy a live album so you know what you will get. Mastodon never disappoints with a release and this one is know different and it just plain rocks. They are easily the best metal band in the last 15 years. Enjoy! \m/
P.S. Don't steal this album. If your going to get it BUY IT!!!! Metal needs are support!
Live Mastodon Album?
I love Mastodon but do not understand why anyone would want to listen to a live album from them. I haven't even heard this album but i've seen them live enough times to know that they sound much better on their studio albums. They pull off the songs but the singing is awful and usually Brent's guitar is mixed so low you can't even hear the leads. Still a huge fan, but i'll wait for the next studio effort.
Amazing
Crack the Skye was an amazing, etherial, album that took multiple listenings to really sink in. You could get lost in the music and just absorb it. I saw them life in San Jose and it was, hands down the best concert I have ever been to. I love how they speed the songs up and make them sound heavier. Its like a different, yet great, new take on the album. Im buying this to support the best band around and to relive that concert! All hail the MIGHTY MASTODON!!
