wow, wow, wow, wow.......!
I first saw these guys at Bonnaroo 2006... Before the band had played only a handful of people there knew who "Toubab Krewe" but by the time their late-night set was over they had everyone turned into jello. This album has a few similarities to that show... Toubab Krewe always seems to have some kind of special guest that enhances but never detracts from the experience. That night at Bonnaroo they brought a dancer from Atlanta that had his black-belt in sick-nasty traditional African dance! And he had the coolest outfits/costumes/masks... sigh. On this album our surprise comes in the form of a beat poet that takes the normally lyric-less Krewe songs and puts a whole new twist on something that I figured was already as musically complex as I've ever heard. I really hope they take this guy out on tour! This album + a pair of really good headphones is like instant 88mph back to that night in Tennessee, dancing barefoot with a couple thousand other people that were having their fuses blown by this North Carolina treat.

I feel no shame when I say this is one of the best bands out today. There is nobody else like Toubab Krewe. This incredible album is only a testament to that. I highly suggest seeing them live and checking out more of their shows on archive.
