iTunes Review

This set catches the singer-guitarist as his star was in ascent, but before he'd crossed over to white audiences, playing a hot concert in 1964 at Chicago's answer to Harlem's Apollo Theater, the Regal. King's performance here is visceral. He sings so hard there's gravel even in his clearest high notes. And his trademark single-note guitar lines are sharp and steely, matching his voice with trembling vigor. He offers early hits like "How Blue Can You Get," "Worry, Worry," "You Upset Me Baby," and "Sweet Little Angel," to what's essentially his adopted hometown crowd. (King had already played the theater hundreds of times.) The audience gives him such a hero's welcome that their screaming enthusiasm is sometimes distracting. But rarely has such powerful magnetism between a performer and his fans been captured.

The best live Blues record EVER

This is blues with a feeling, with a hot crowd that is digging every note. Mr. King and his band are in prime form, and they absolutely rock the joint! If you want just one Blues record, this is the one. "Sweet Little Angel" is my favorite, but every song is great. Peace.

Live at the Regal

this is probably the best live album in the entire history of all live albums ever.

Essential

This album is an absolute MUST in any music lovers collection. The emotion King unveils, the precision of the band behind him and the incomparable audience interaction make it in one word....essential.

Universally hailed as the reigning king of the blues, the legendary B.B. King is without a doubt the single most important electric guitarist of the last half century. His bent notes and staccato picking style have influenced legions of contemporary bluesmen, while his gritty and confident voice — capable of wringing every nuance from any lyric — provides a worthy match for his passionate playing. Between 1951 and 1985, King notched an impressive 74 entries on Billboard's R&B charts,...
