Excellent live set from an essential artist

This album is an outstanding, career-spanning live performance by one of America's most essential singer-songwriters of the past 20 years. Suzanne's old and new songs are all performed with poignancy and clarity, and sound great backed up by her 3-piece live band. Lots of hits here, but also lesser-known gems such as "Rosemary", "Gypsy", and "Penitent". Looking forward to Suzanne's next studio album!! She takes a long time between albums, but her music always retains it's immediacy.

Good Show

Suzanne Vega is awesome live, and this collection does a good job capturing her coolness. The set includes some classics ("Gypsy," "Marlene on the Wall," "Left of Center," all from her early days in the eighties) but ignores her middle period in favor of later work. This is too bad, because some her best songs (such as "Men in a War," "Rock in this Pocket," and "In Liverpool," to name a few) are noticeably absent. Overall, a decent recap and a good starting point for those who aren't familiar with her.

Finally!

So very happy to have this CD. Saw Suzanne in concert (Birchmere, VA) May 2003. I had no idea how good she'd be live. She was amazing and this CD captures the cacophony of her music/voice. "Blood Makes Noise" is the standout!

Her hushed, restrained folk-pop and highly literate lyrics (inspired chiefly by Leonard Cohen, as well as Lou Reed and Bob Dylan) laid the initial musical groundwork for what later became the trademark sound of Lilith Fair (a tour on which she was a regular). Moreover, her left-field hit single "Luka" helped convince record companies that folk-styled singer/songwriters...
