Joan Jett seals the Hall of Fame ballots with this Blistering Live CD! MUST HAVE!
This is the most incredible live CD released EVER! It is short (9 tracks if you include"Fetish" which is on the CD, but remains the studio version with overdubbed crowd noise) Kenny worked his magic on this production. Joan's voice sounds perfectly husky, on-pitch and RAW. When I say "Raw", I actually mean it in a good "goose-bumps and heart palpitations kinda way" If anyone knows what I'm talking about it is YOU who is reading this now. Kenny enhanced some of the live instruments that may not have been loud enough or not heard properly depending on where you were standing in the crown (this IS a recording of the Warped live show in Portland and Kenny did a perfect job) Joan hits EVERY note with passion and seasoned perfection. It was like I was discovering these songs for the first time again. Her vocals and delivery on "Touch Me" rivals anything live I've heard. The BLISTERING track "Five" takes you absolutely to the very edge while Crimson and Clover proves the masterful collaboration between Kenny's record collection and Joan Jett.... but as if it was HER who marked that song as an all time classic. I dare you to listen to this performance and say different. Change the World, the punky and repetitive anthem is included and I can't remember a better time to let the lyrics sink in, can you? With the election of our King and Savior, it is so appropriate.... especially the inference that suggest taking your own part in making this world a better place. Roll up your sleeves, stop all of the hating and complaining and @#$*+!* do something about it, right? Joan emotes that simple yet complex message in this track. Bad Reputation kicks off the CD and you can almost smell smoke coming off of her guitar. She is clearly not cutting ANY corners with this performance. That fast rhythm guitar in Bad Rep is not lazily played this time around. EVERY breakneck chord was played and with precision and the fuzz of the velvet hammer. Kenny's tambourine is so good and clear! That tam part in Bad Rep is extremely difficult because at the end of certain measures, there's only what I can describe as a "tambourine roll" where it sizzles with the pumping bass and Joan's electrifying rhythm guitar and WOW did Thommy play the absolute skins off of the drums that day. Since I first heard the studio version of Bad Reputation back in 1982 (yes, I'm one of the ones who never had the opportunity to visit Kenny's Cadillac office to purchase a Blackheart copy of "Joan Jett". I had to settle on Woodruff Drugs in Aiken, SC. Anyway, the driving drums on Bad Rep had gotten lost over the years and played more like a "house music" 4/4 beat without the very articulate and innovative percussive technique Frank Infante (I think that's right) used. Well, THOMMY TORE THAT UP ON THIS RECORDING! This is a must have and I don't put this kind of verbiage on just anything. I absolutely love it! I'm a huge Joan Jett & The Blackheart fan and this is a must for any fan.
Great songs, great sound. Best thing to being there.
Only issue is Fetish, I have that song on 4 different CDs (Naked, Fetish, Sinner and now this one). Need to stop putting that on everything.
