What go around come around

I saw Duran Duran back in 1983 when they were at the height of their initial popularity following the release of "Seven and the Ragged Tiger". That show stills ranks high among the many other live shows I've seen, probably sitting in the top five. Listening to this brings back such memories and also amazes me at the same time. Here is a band that was almost relegated to history as so many other bands from eighties have been. Now, twenty-three years since I saw them live, I'm listening to this album with a smile because they sound as crisp and fresh as ever. The icing on the cake is that they've brought their original line up back to boot. For any Duran Duran fan or anyone who enjoys the nostalgia of the eighties, this is a must. Your collection will not be complete otherwise.

Great job!

What most impressed me is how tight the playing is on this album. Some bands can't keep up their sound live, and seem ragged. Not Duran Duran! People always underestimated this band's talent, and it's nice to hear that the original lineup still has that chemistry and understanding. The bonus tracks are a bit faint in this mix, but otherwise...yeah.

The original lineup never sounded better

Duran's weeklong homecoming concerts at Wembley Arena in 2004 found the original lineup riding the wave of a career renaissance that began when the Taylors returned to the fold in the early `00s. The last two nights at Wembley were filmed and recorded for this release. (The DVD is available elsewhere.) It's almost a definite to say that Duran Duran is, in fact, better today than they were in the 1980s. The performance of their catalog (and 2 new hits) here is invigorating, and they clearly are having a great time. It's also a compliment to the band to find their songs from the `80s have aged so well, which can't be said for a lot of their counterparts. Furthermore, the band sounds tough, tight and energetic on LIVE IN LONDON. And, how cool is it to see the Taylors back in the band, especially Roger---who everyone thought would never come out of retirement?! Highly recommended...if you are a Duran fan, a music fan or a fan of incredibly well-produced live music. You won't be disappointed. (Also recommended is Astronaut, the 2004 Duran Duran album.)

Biography

Formed: 1978 in Birmingham, England

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Duran Duran personified new wave for much of the mainstream audience. And for good reason, too. Duran Duran's reputation was built through music videos, which accentuated their fashion-model looks and glamorous sense of style. Without music videos, it's likely that their pop-funk — described by the group as the Sex Pistols meets Chic — would never have made them international pop stars. While Duran Duran did have sharper pop sensibilities than their new romantic contemporaries like Spandau...
