Album Review

Oliver Nelson's live recordings don't seem as sharp as his studio stuff. Good playing, though, from a good group of West Coasters, but nothing exciting happens.

Oliver Nelson's Big Band Live from Los Angeles !!

One of my all time favorite big band lps finally makes it to cd ! This was one swingin band . The solos are hot to the point of sizziling by the two sax soloists Tom Scott and Frank Strozier on the classic Miles Davis tune " Milestones ", groovingly arranged by the great Oliver Nelson. On the old standard " Down by the Riverside" four great trumpets solo like sizzling fire , with solos in this order ,Bobby Bryant,Freddy Hill, Conte Candoli and Buddy Childers . This was one wailin brass section. Any fan of hot hot big band Jazz fan wont go wrong with this cd !!! Buy IT !!
