Awesome!

My friends saw Miyavi in New York, and I missed it, but after hearing how awesome he was I postponed going to Italy just to go see Miyavi in London. It was awesome. The vocals are admittedly not his best because as he said, his voice was kind of dead that day. He made up for it though in energy and just his insane guitar skills. He is amazing to see live. I got the limited version (which has 18 tracks) and I haven't stopped listening to it. This was only a few weeks after the earthquake in Japan, and he was obviously worn out by it, but he put so much emotion into everything, especially Gravity. And We Love You was awesome as well as we all sung along. In all it was an unforgettable concert, and it resulted in this awesome live album.

Unbelievable

I'm reluctant to try to describe just how amazing a guitarist Miyavi is, because I'm sure newcomers would never believe me. It always sounds like hyperbole, man. That said, this sampler of his London live is a perfect snapshot of his style: raw guitar with a catchy pop-funk-blues sensibility, a bit rough on the vocals, but making up for it in appealing emotion and infectious energy. Not everyone likes the stripped-down sound, but I think it perfectly fits Miyavi's straightforward music. Highlights include Chillin' for its crazy-awesome guitar solo, and the wrenching Gravity. Miyavi fans--if you didn't buy the limited edition you hella missed out, but go ahead and pick this one up. I'm afraid new listeners will get kinda spoiled by all the amazing solos here that don't appear in the studio versions, but it is definitely a good intro to Miyavi.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active:

Miyavi has the look and ambition of a manga/anime rock star, but he also has songs to back up his flamboyantly presented projects, mixing acoustic pop, blues, and hip-hop elements into his eccentric blend of rock. Miyavi is half Japanese and half Korean, although he grew up in Japan, aspiring to be a soccer player as a kid. His sports career was cut short by an injury at the age of 15, and so he switched to rock music. He debuted on the professional scene at 18, appearing in 1999 as Miyabi, the guitarist...
