Album Review

The cover credit on this live trio album reads "Darrell Scott, Danny Thompson and Kenny Malone," and the progressive British folk-rock bassist (best known for his work with Pentangle and Richard Thompson) and stalwart Nashville session drummer deserve the equal billing. Rarely has the singer/songwriter's material sounded better than it does on these loose, expansive takes. There are only nine songs on this 63-minute album, stretched out into jazzy instrumental vamps that only very rarely devolve into tiresome jam band showboating. All three players solo tastefully (Thompson's best showcase is at the end of the bluesy opener, "Miracle of Living"), although Scott's nicely weathered voice and solid guitar playing remain in the forefront. A small handful of covers between the originals are a pleasant change of pace, but no more. Low-key but entertaining, Live in NC should charm Scott's fans.

I love this album, one of my favorites

I had never heard of these guys and was just searching for versions of Folsom Prison. I stumbled on this and bought the whole album. It is spectacular. Not a bad song on it. Just a awesome jam session. I wish there was more albums by these guys together.

Buy this and The Invisible Man to start

I saw Darrell Scott perform last week in Nashville after the Americana Music Awards, and was blown away. Been searching through iTunes to see what could capture that show. I just bought and listened to this album, and I think this is as close as I'll get. Hoping he heads to the DC area on a tour sometime soon.

Amazing Album!!

I was working at a Darrell Scott concert in Northern Ireland and I was given this album as a thank-you gift . . . what an amazing album! It has been played constantly especially tracks 7 and 8! DEFINITELY an artist to see live =)
