Old School. Very Cool.
I just listened to Leela James' "Live in New Orleans" EP and I've got to say this is the kind of soul/R&B that hearkens waaaay back in many ways. She's got a distinctive feel of Joan Armatrading in that husky voice and parts of this live set kick like some of the great pioneers of the form. This EP is hardly a classic, but it is certainly better than simply good. Um, lemmesee, that would make it a "very good" record, especially for old souls and fans of the blues. I've never heard of Ms. James before this iTunes offering, which speaks poorly of myself, but glowingly of Ms. James and the best online music store on Earth.
